Vacancy – Community Gardener

The Role

The REAP Community Gardener will be responsible for supporting growing of fruits and vegetables in communities, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund until October 2023.

Candidates must have gardening experience. The role of the REAP Community Gardener will be to take the lead in promoting and developing growing spaces in Moray. The aim is to encourage people in the community to grow local food and reduce carbon footprint created by importing food into the community. The candidate must demonstrate ability to plan gardening tasks and run gardening sessions with a particular emphasis on food sustainability. Utilising previous experience in growing, the Community Gardener will work with our local partners, including community groups, schools and individuals across rural communities to increase the number of people growing and eating locally grown fruits and vegetables.

A range of evaluation approaches will be implemented via surveys and feedback. Further, the Community Gardener will recruit a team of volunteers to support the work in the garden and training of this group will be ongoing throughout the project.

The successful candidate will also run free workshops and courses to help individuals learn new skills around growing, harvesting, and composting as well as bi-monthly volunteer days in Cooper Park Garden, Elgin and other REAP designated garden. Composting has always been a big focus for REAP. Composting helps reduce methane gas by keeping food waste out of landfills, it provides valuable home-made fertiliser to help grow strong and healthy plants. The Community Gardener will set up community composting hotspots for our FREE bicycle food waste collections.

Candidates must be willing to travel, own or have access to car. (Mileage will be paid towards travel cost).
