‘Tis the s
eason, not only to be jolly, but also to take a well-earned rest. We had our last garden session of 2025 this week in the Glebe garden, which was decked out in sparkling frost, and we shared some seasonal cheer with warm mulled (non-alcoholic!) wine and gingerbread biscuits.
Over the past month we’ve focused on tidying up and tucking the garden in for the cold weather ahead, helped by a delivery of compost which will help us to fill our raised beds and mulch our fruit trees and bushes. We’ve gratefully received a couple of very kind donations over the past month, including lots of daffodil and narcissus bulbs for some bright spring colour, and a metal firepit which we hope to test out early next year to toast some marshmallows! Thanks so much for supporting us!
The garden has such wonderful wisdom for winter: the way the leaves have let go, gathering at the roots of trees to protect them over the coldest months; covering over bulbs and seeds to blanket them, and provide a source of nourishment ready for the next cycle. It’s a time of reflection for us too: celebrating our successes, noticing our challenges, and taking pause to allow the beneficial things from the last year to sink in deeply.
We’ve been busy planning a series of indoor sessions for January and February (for when the weather isn’t so inviting outside),
and also thinking ahead to our priority projects and collaborations for Springtime and beyond too. There’s lots to look forward to and plenty to be grateful for, not least all the kind support, donations, and community connections we’ve already grown this year. Sending festive cheer and wishing a peaceful holiday to all!
Georgia, Keith Community Gardener.
