Maryhill Therapeutic Garden Project Update – April 2022

The Maryhill Therapeutic Garden Project is taking a break on the 5th and 7th April but will be back in action on Tuesday 12th April 2022. Spring is always an exciting time in the garden and new referrals to the project are always welcome. Please contact Karen at karen.h@reapscotland.org.uk for further information.
Here is what we have been up to before our break……We have been steady getting a corner of the garden prepared for some benches for participants to sit and have a quiet moment listening to bird song including robins, blackbirds and yes owls! πŸ¦‰ Getting our hearts going and our muscles flexed by digging out piles of composted soil, levelling the area and mulching with cardboard and wood chip. A real group effort. πŸ’ͺWatch this space for more progress on that.🀩
The sun has been shining on us for at least a month which everyone has enjoyed working in. Giving us a false sense that spring had sprung with unseasonal heat wave! 🌞
The picnic table donated by one of our neighbours has been sanded down and protected with wood oils bringing it back to life, we are enjoying having our tea breaks on it. β˜•οΈ
The frame of the greenhouse has been covered with recycled polytunnel plastic so all our seeds sown in modules for an early start will be protected, cabbage and leek seedlings are thriving.
Veg seeds including carrots, spring onions and rocket have been directly sown in the market beds, protected with donated netting held up with willow hoops. πŸ₯•πŸ₯” Tatties are also in the ground waiting to heave through the earthed-up drills. Nasturtiums, sunflowers and cosmos flowers have been sown too, adding some colour to the garden, wildflower pollinating hubs including poppies and cornflowers will be sown when we get back from our spring break all around the new seating area, welcoming our beneficial beasties to the garden. πŸŽ‹πŸŒΌπŸ›πŸπŸ¦‹
Exciting time waiting for seeds to germinate with the soil warming up. ☺️
